Celebrating the life of
Billy Ray Love
February 06, 1949 - April 11, 2014
Tybee Island - Billy Ray Love, 65, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at Memorial University Medical Center. He was born in Savannah, son of Johnnie Lambert Love and Edna Mae Barrow Love. He graduated from Richmond Hill High School and then joined the United States Navy. As a fiercely patriotic veteran, Billy spent the next sixteen years serving aboard the USS Springfield, Dyess, Yosemite, Bryd and Sellers. As an experienced chef/cook, he was repeatedly requested to prepare meals for the captain and other high ranking officials. After the military, he worked as a long haul trucker until he was injured which unfortunately was the beginning of his nursing home life which would continue for the next twenty five years. Billy was especially close to his Lord as he actually read the Bible more than seven times. When his health allowed, he loved attending the Thursday morning men's Bible group at the Sunrise Restaurant on Tybee. He was a longtime resident of Oceanside Nursing Home on Tybee Island where he also had conducted Bible classes.
Billy was extremely proud of his three daughters, Mary his oldest, Sandra, and his youngest Amanda and his six grandchildren, Charlie, Jared, Aylissa, Summer, Marissa and Levi.
It was Billy's request that his good friend Drew have his cremated remains disbursed at sea by a United States Navy Vessel. This will be carried out in the next few weeks.

My deepest sympathy to the Love family for the loss of your dear loved one. During this most difficult time, may your hearts be comforted by Jehovah God' s promise to 'swallow up death forever and He will wipe away the tears from all faces.' Isaiah 25:8

I really enjoyed the time Billy and I shared when we lived on Tybee. Billy loved Jesus with all his heart. He was an active participant in church life at Trinity Chapel. He was known for making gifts of all sorts for others as a special way of showing God's love. He was an inspiration in his generosity and devotion to reading God's word. He will be missed.

Billy was a faithful participate in ourIslands Community Church Tuesday morning Bible studies. He shared with us his many talents including Solos, piano and guitar music, and at times led the Bible study when I was unable to attend. At one time he began leading a Worship service on Sundays for the Oceanside Residents. Billy was also a very talented artist, with his paintings scattered throughout Oceanside for all to enjoy. He was considered a very close friend and brother in Christ and will be missed by all.
